Kickstarting Africa with Stephanie Diakité...

Stephanie Diakité is the founder and Executive Vice President of T160K. She has been an attorney, educational activist and legal consultant for many years. After a tragic and incredibly enlightening experience in Africa in 2012, involving risking her own life, she decided to launch the T160k project. T160k is a crowd-funding organization that seeks to support and raise funds for a variety of unique and artistic projects throughout Africa. In 2012, under threat from fundamentalist rebels, a team of archivists and librarians evacuated an irreplaceable trove of ancient manuscripts from Timbuktu at great personal risk. This was the experience that caused Stephanie and a group of her colleagues to launch T160k. Today, Stephanie oversees all operations for T160k and works as a transformational development specialist in more than 40 sub-Saharan African countries. In this episode, Stephanie shares: 1) A great story about librarians and activists risking their lives to help save elements of a nation’s history and culture. 2) How her organization is building communities that are changing the world. 3) The importance of non-profits having excellent business acumen. 4) The power of crowdfunding. Feel free to email Stephanie directly at info@t160k.org or get connected with T160k at their website or on Twitter.  ...
